The midwife checking me out after giving birth to my baby. She said ‘you’re responsible for the effort, not the outcome.’ It was a hard, traumatic labor and hospital stay. Years later, I’ve clawed myself up from that to a content, confident, grounded motherhood. Yes, I worry. I’ve questioned my choices and options. But I have also learned to live into what the wonderfully compassionate midwife told us. It brought us so much comfort then, and still does to this day.
Ultimately there’s so much in life we cannot control. Contending with this fear has become an important part of my growth and spiritual development these past five and a half years. Do you have trouble with control? Maybe you’ve also experienced medical trauma, where you weren’t in control and didn’t know that you would be cared for. These days, I use music and art to explore and stretch my insecurities surrounding control. Stick around, I’d love to share this path with you.
