I’ve answered this two other ways in the past few months. So instead I’m going to give two prompts and responses of my own for you fine folks to join me in.
1. What is a place, experience, or circumstance that transports you into a different level of consciousness or understanding?
2. I feel most connected to others when I’m ______.
My answer to prompt one: Probably the mountains. Really, though, I have glimpses of the oneness of all things in lots of settings and places, it’s just that being in the comfortable embrace of the mountains is the most sure-fire way for me to step out of myself, look around, and be thankful for all that is. The untameability of the topography combined with the closeness of the sky just feels like a hug and a snuggle.
Prompt two: Probably when I’m creating art with them. Not necessarily visual art, mind you. Music, dance, sculpture, play, anything creative, really! I am so excited to be attending the Arts, Recreation and Worship Conference in Montreat, NC (mountains!) in May, and I’m so excited to be taking a printmaking workshop and a prayer in movement workshop. I’ve done some fantastic classes at ARW in the past: stained glass making, fused glass making, recreation leadership, tie dyeing, to name a few. It’s a wonderful opportunity to connect with my people and myself.
