Thanks for stopping by!

I’m an artist, musician, and creative dabbler in many things. Although I primarily teach music in fun, uplifting, and creative ways, my passion lies in helping people embody their own sacred creativity–whatever that means to them. I’m rooted in the Christian Tradition, but comfortable working with any faith or beliefs that do not deny the humanity and belovedness of another group of people. I take my contemplative practice into the work I do with children learning music, into my parenting, and into my day-to-day. Although I don’t believe in evangelizing the way it’s traditionally thought of (you may study with me and never know what I believe), I hope to make my approach in how I set up the learning space one that is open, inviting, loving, and supportive.

My music studies took me to Oberlin College and Conservatory for a Bachelor’s of the Arts in French and a Bachelor’s of Music in Organ Performance. Following my studies, I moved to France for two years to study organ under Jean-Baptiste Robin at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Versailles and at the Chappelle Royale de Versailles.

Our Story

Toward the end of my studies at Oberlin, I met this guy here, Jacob, who gallantly followed me to France. We got married after returning from overseas, and have been adventuring together ever since. We’ve lived in Ohio, Massachusetts, Florida (we both grew up in different parts of that state!), and now Kentucky.

Knitter

I LOVE to knit. Squishy, wooly fibers call to me. I love an alpaca blend or plant fiber worsted. Just give me something that feels divine, and I’ll knit with it till my wrists hurt. I’ve documented a lot of my knitscapades under my instagram handle, hkdoesyarn.

Artist

The visual arts were my first love in grade school, before I began formal music study. Although I eventually specialized, reclaiming my innate desire to be visually expressive has been so important in my reclaiming of self. Watercolors and digital creation are the current media of choice, but I’ve taken classes in figure drawing, calligraphy, and art history.

Spiritual Seeker

While I’ve never been one to focus intently just on one subject or line of thought, I do intently pursue my goal: being the best version of myself! Centering Prayer has been an important spiritual practice, one that connects me to myself and others more fully. I also connect my artistic and musical pursuits to my spiritual side, looking for the points of connection to flow and compassion all around.

Focusing on Me!

These days, I’m not very active as an organ performer. I’m soaking in my time teaching, improving my pedagogical approaches, and having a family! I don’t know when that will shift again, but I look forward to someday stepping back into my organ shoes. These days however, it’s just not a priority. I enjoy substituting at churches and teaching.
