My main job for the past three years has been music/piano teacher online. I taught before having kids, a little after having my first, and then not at all for a bit before and during the start of the pandemic. Then, my husband’s work fell through at the end of 2020, and I was referred to OutSchool-an online learning platform for independent educators and students. I’m so lucky it worked out, because it’s allowed my husband to start his own business, be home with our kid more, and allowed us to have another baby.

Outside on our deck, planning classes and completing professional development.
I quit my in-person organist job back in January, and since then I’ve really been excited to revamp some of what I do online, and lean more into the things that are working well. Because of the format, I teach mostly small group classes, think 2-5 students/class. This allows me to charge a very affordable rate and I’m paid fairly. As a mom of two, that feels like a win-win. Students join the lessons over Zoom on their own keyboards, so unlike in-person group lessons, I don’t have to have a large space and multiple keyboards for everyone. I can’t imagine. That would be SO MUCH OVERHEAD, and it would wipe out either the affordability of what I do, OR cut too much into my earnings.
Anyway, I would love to have kids in your life in my classes! If you’d like to give it a try, here’s a code for 20$ off your first class! You can take a look at my profile and classes and enter the code HeatherK2020 when checking out. 🙂 Feel free to share around too!
