If you’re not familiar, it’s where everyone has their pet items, and they know exactly where in the pile they are, but if you “put them away” (which does not happen), then you will have upset the delicate ecosystem of ‘filing’ we have for all our stuff.
It’s easy to confuse this with ‘a family with young kids in the house.’ And that’s fair. But the intensity of chaos is just a bit more. You might distinguish between the two styles by looking for tell-tale signs: sensory friendly options: like dens or forts, headphones, fidgets all over the floor, and maybe an epic saga laid out where all the actors paused for the director’s lunch (I would do this growing up, just leave all my toys in their ‘homes’ around my room. Then they’d come out to play for the story continuation later). Another feature of the neurodivergent house decor: two harried and barely hanging on parents. Deep breaths. We got this. 😬
